You don't have to carry this alone anymore.
Counseling for individuals, couples, and families in every season of life — with a special heart for teens and young adults finding their footing. Therapy grounded in evidence, guided by someone who has walked the road himself.
If this sounds familiar…
You've been holding it together for everyone else. Who's holding it together for you?
Most people don't reach out because things fell apart overnight. They reach out because they've been quietly carrying something heavy for a long time. Maybe one of these is yours:
The pressure to have it figured out
You're a teen or twenty-something and everyone assumes you're fine. Underneath: anxiety that hums through everything, a future that feels like a maze, and no one you can really tell.
The distance between you
You and your partner keep having the same fight with different words. Trust has been bruised — maybe broken — and you're tired of walking on eggshells in your own home.
The kid you're fighting for
Your teen or young adult is struggling and you can't reach them. Or you're co-parenting through change, or grieving someone — or some version of your life — you weren't ready to lose.
None of this means something is wrong with you. It means something in your life is asking to be heard — and healing is possible when it finally is.
How I work
Emotion isn't the problem. It's the compass.
My work is emotionally-focused: instead of managing symptoms from the surface, we follow what you're feeling down to what it's protecting — and change the pattern at its root. It's an approach built on decades of attachment research, delivered with the warmth of someone who's sat on both sides of the couch.
A space with no judgment in it
Therapy only works when you can be fully honest. I hold a warm, steady, genuinely non-judgmental space — you will never have to perform, impress, or protect me from what's real.
We follow the feeling to the root
Anxiety, anger, and distance are usually signals — not defects. Using emotionally-focused, attachment-based methods, we trace those signals to the needs underneath and rebuild from there.
Proven methods, human pace
I combine evidence-based therapeutic techniques with compassion and hope. You set the pace; I bring the map. We measure progress by how your actual life and relationships change.
I haven't just studied anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma — I've lived through them. That journey is why I do this work: I know what it takes to walk out of a dark season, and I know no one should have to do it alone. — Joel's story, in brief

I work with individuals, couples, and families across every stage of life. These are the areas where I've gone deep — and where my clients see real movement.
Teens & Young Adults
Anxiety, identity, confidence, and direction for ages 13–30 — school and career pressure, finding purpose, and LGBTQ+ exploration in an affirming, pressure-free space.
Anxiety & Depression
Quiet the constant hum of worry, find footing in low seasons, and build resilience that holds up outside the therapy room.
Couples & Relationships
Marital counseling, communication, and boundaries — including the hard work of rebuilding trust after betrayal and affair recovery.
Family & Parenting
Parent coaching, co-parenting through transition, and helping parents reconnect with the teens and young adults they love.
Grief & Life Transitions
Space to grieve what — or who — you've lost, and to rebuild identity and purpose on the other side of change.
Trauma & Recovery
Gentle, paced work to process trauma and abuse — so the past can stop writing the script for your present.

What sets Joel apart isn't just training — it's terrain. He has personally navigated anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma, and he brings both professional expertise and the deep understanding that only lived experience can give. Clients describe his presence as warm and steady: a safe, non-judgmental space where real change becomes possible.
His approach is emotionally focused — combining evidence-based therapeutic techniques with the compassion and hope that come from his own journey of healing. Whether he's helping a young adult find direction, a couple find each other again, or a parent reconnect with their child, the goal is the same: lasting change that starts within.

Both. Joel sees clients in person at his Castle Pines office (The Clarity Group, 7505 Village Square Drive, Suite 207) and via secure telehealth anywhere in Colorado — weekdays, with some evening availability.
A conversation — not an interrogation. In the first session, Joel's job is to help you feel comfortable, understand what brought you in, and start mapping what you'd like to be different. You set the pace. There's nothing you're supposed to know or say "correctly."
Research is clear that the relationship between you and your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of how well therapy works. That's exactly what the free consult is for — and Joel will be honest with you if he believes a different clinician or approach would serve you better.
Yes — Joel is a male counselor and therapist based in Castle Pines, just five minutes north of Castle Rock, serving the South Denver area and all of Colorado via telehealth. Many clients — men, teen boys, and couples especially — specifically look for a male therapist's perspective. If that's part of what brought you here, you're in the right place.
Yes — Joel works with teens, young adults, individuals, couples, parents, and families. Some clients come in for themselves, some as a couple, and some family work involves different combinations over time depending on what's needed.
It depends on what you're carrying and what you want to change. Some people come for a season around a specific challenge; others go deeper over a longer arc. Either way, you and Joel will regularly check that the work is moving you toward your goals — therapy should never feel like drifting.
